Introduction

One of the games I brought up in my post about games releasing in the first trimester, it ended up being the first (and for now only) I played due to both its short length and because I was genuinely curious.

The premise is simple: the protagonist was summoned to a parallel world, given a bunch of cheat skills and tasked with defeating the Demon King. He assembles a party of powerful female heroines and after a long journey, defeats the demon. Your standard isekai premise. After the Demon King's defeat,  Sarge Masklind, a princess imbued with divine power hailing from the Kingdom the protagonist was summoned in, confesses her love for him, and the two promise to be together forever.

However, just when the Hero thought he would have a life of relaxing and enjoying a slow life in the now peaceful parallel world, a ray of light transports him back to his room in the human world, with almost no time having passed. The silver lining is that Sarge, who was hugging him, came with him. He initially tries to tell himself that this is enough for him to be happy, but being back to the human world and without his cheat skills causes the protagonist to relapse into the extremely antisocial behavior he had before, refusing to leave home and sleeping almost all the time, and being very rude to Sarge. He tells her to go out and get food for them, figuring that a beautiful girl like her would have no trouble getting help in the nearby shopping street.

The thing is Sarge is stupid. She's innocent to a level that just isn't normal, both about mundane things and especially about sexual things. And despite their shared vows, she and the protagonist have not gone beyond kissing and holding hands. So, as the title of the game should make it obvious, Sarge's escapades to procure food for the shut-in moron of a Hero leads her to encounters with other men and get corrupted by them.

The thing that makes this game stand out is that there are 3 corruption paths where Sarge can become a party-loving kuro gyaru, a foreigner-obsessed prostitute, or even be found out by remnants of the Demon King's army and transformed into a demon.

The fork between the three routes is the protagonist waking up to one of these three images after neglecting Sarge for weeks.

The idea is that she's "painted in the colors" of the men she falls victim to, in both a figurative and literal sense, as it involves body modifications of both mundane (tanning, tattoos, breast implants) and magical (body modification, brainwashing). The "Choroine" in the title is a portmanteau of the words "choroi", which in slang means an easy or dumb woman, and heroine. Shinomiya Hina, Sarge's voice actress, joked that it's a pretty cruel title but a fitting one for what happens to her character.

It's also why the corruption can happen so fast even when no magic is at play - Sarge has a very high libido despite her ignorance about sex. In the prologue scene when she first kisses the protagonist, she would absolutely have kept going right then and there if the protagonist didn't chicken out thinking it was "too much stimulation for a virgin like him" and that they should take things slowly. So a combination of that naturally high sex drive and her innocence and curiosity leads to her being tricked into sexual relationships fast.

As a side note, while this is a netorare game, I found it absolutely impossible to feel bad for the protagonist. I usually don't, anyway, but the Hero feels written to be despised and not sympathized with. Japanese reviews I read seem to echo that sentiment. So despite the setup it may not be for fans of more hardcore "identify with the cucked guy" netorare. But it's right up my alley of "appreciating twisted corruption", especially the demon route.

Another thing I should note is that, given this is an Appetite game, the routes are very short - there's an introduction scene, one flashback scene showing the princess' first encounter with the man who led her astray, a sex scene playing out right after the introduction that serves the role of destroying the protagonist's hope of returning Sarge to her former self, and a scene after a time skip where Sarge has changed even further, to the point of becoming almost unrecognizable.

There is also a fourth route that is unlocked after seeing the first 3 endings, but I will discuss it later.

I think for the pricetag this is enough content, but the routes can still feel short, especially if you like one scenario over the others. But to discuss further, let's go into spoiler territory. As usual, skip to the conclusion if you just want to read the final thoughts.

Spoiler Talk

So, the production team made no secret that the game was conceived around the demon route and the others are expansions, and it shows. Not only does it have a slightly different structure, but it's also the one that doesn't need to stretch my disbelief about how dumb Sarge can be. The fourth route I mentioned above also functions almost like its continuation. In the fourth route, Sarge shows up alone, as "something that can't be called human anymore", a form even more demonic than at the end of the Demon route, and she implies in dialogue that she has gone through the experiences of the three routes ("met lots of men and got tainted by them"), but she's on her own now. Other than this re-introduction, everything could easily take place in a fork of the Demon route. I will talk briefly about each route and its contents in the suggested playing order.

Pick your flavor of Sarge

Gyaru Route

Gyaru Sarge is really fun. She talks like a stereotypical gyaru and the difference between her tone of voice is great. Actually, this is a constant in this game and easily it's the biggest plus on the technical side - normal Sarge, gyaru Sarge, whore Sarge, and demon Sarge all have pretty different voices. Recognizable as the same person but displaying different personalities. Props to Shinomiya Hina.

After relentlessly mocking the Hero for being good-for-nothing trash in this homeworld and that it's obvious she would trade men instead of being stuck with him (while the Hero tries to remind Sarge of all they went through to save the world, which she dismisses as stuff from the past that doesn't matter anymore while the guy with her just thinks the protagonist is delusional), Sarge decides to recount the first met the womanizer character (who she refers to as her darling) to drive the point home.

She met him right after leaving the Hero's apartment for the first time. Hilariously enough, the guy isn't even some evil rapist - seeing a girl dressed like a princess show up in the corridor and having earlier contracted the "special course" of an escort service, he assumes she's the escort and that the getup and weird way of talking is some kind of cosplay. He didn't ask for anything like that but he's amused by how Sarge doesn't break the princess character. So he invites her to his house and treats her like one would an escort, he actually asks everything before going forward. The sleazebag is easily the most decent dude in this game which I find hilarious. Sarge, misunderstanding everything he's saying, ends up agreeing to have sex without really knowing what that is and gets really into it despite being her first time (the guy is spooked when he realizes she's a virgin but then assumes that's just how amazing the special course is - he's about as stupid as Sarge).

One cool thing is that Sarge starts picking up some slang he uses during sex, to refer to the sexual feelings she doesn't know how to describe. After the sex, the guy asks if they could become sex buddies, and Sarge doesn't know what that is, but if he's asking to be her friend, then she wants it, and she wants to do what they just did again.

Then there's a sex scene right in front of the protagonist to really show that she's done with him as a lover. This isn't the innocent Sarge from the beginning and flashback anymore but really mean spirited and fully aware of all things sexual, of course.

After the timeskip, we see the first drastic change in appearance I talked earlier. Sarge is now wearing ganguro makeup instead of tamer gyaru varieties, her arms and legs covered in full tattoo sleeves, and she's stepping on the hero and mocking him while they're surrounded by men. I said she was done with him as a lover, but she keeps him as a pet and outlet for her mockery, because it's funny how pathetic he is. Sarge keeps asking the men for sex and masturbates to stimulate them. And after the guys give her a bukkake, she begs even more aggressively for anyone to just give her cock already.

The Hero just watches and mumbles to himself, thinking that Sarge not having him thrown away is proof that in some twisted form, their promise to always be together remains, and that he's destined to watch on as she keeps falling further.

I like this route because I'm into stereotypical gyarus. This route is basically the stuff Inoue Nanaki, the mangaka who did the art for this game, does in his regular work, only he goes more extreme in his own stuff. I think the game strikes a better balance. If you're interested in this specific kind of gyarufication, other collabs between him and Appetite go harder in this direction, the only one I played being Otosareteiku Onee-chan, where a protective senpai of the weak protagonist becomes a gyaru and delinquent after being repeatedly raped by his bullies to protect him (and her affection turns into complete disgust). Migawari Kanojo has the same premise but I never played that. Both also lean heavily on Netorare, so be warned. Speaking of which, this is also the route that leans more into traditional netorare tropes. While all routes are netorare, this is the one with willing betrayal and all that jazz.

Prostitute/Foreign Route

The first thing the Hero draws attention to is Sarge's body modifications. That her breasts are bigger, that her lips look fuller/enhanced, and to her tattoos. He says that she reminds him of porn actresses from foreign films. Sarge in this route speaks very broken Japanese, with a lot of English loan words put in the middle of her sentences. The way the VA pronounces them isn't the most accurate but it sounds hot, and that's what matters to me. She also talks a lot in this early part of the route about how she learned "the culture of this world". There's a niche in moral degeneration hentai, usually as a subgenre of netorare, where a Japanese woman is taken by foreigners (usually African natives) during anthropological missions to learn "culture". Basically, they get converted into tribeswomen. This isn't what happens here, obviously, but it is what this dialogue is meant to invoke (and there is a previous game by the studio and artist that is just that).

In this route's flashback, Sarge actually makes it out of the apartment building but is tricked and raped by a foreign man (black, though he's the only black guy in the game as far as I remember), the scene having a tone closer to mindbreak than the consensual comedy of errors from the previous route (though Sarge, being stupid, does believe that the guy is helping her somehow, protecting her from people more dangerous than him. Or something. I'll confess I zoned out a bit in this part). Nonetheless, Sarge still gets into it.

Clearly rape

Back to the present, instead of having another scene in the protagonist's room, they drag him to a club where Sarge services several men. This route's remaining two scenes are blowjob scenes, the only penetrative sex one is the flashback one. I don't really have much to say about this first other than it also plays up the smell aspect, which is a turn on to some and a turn off to others.

Also some light hyottoko/blowjob horse face going on

In the last scene, after the time skip, Sarge has left the country and became a porn actress. The Hero, like the waste of oxygen he is, watches her movies. She looks completely different, in fact, I think this is the most unrecognizable Sarge gets between all routes. She speaks almost exclusively "English" with some Japanese sprinkled in, and it's a pretty entertaining scene for that alone.

Also a face tattoo just... Shows up halfway through the scene. Probably some coloring error. This is a good opportunity to point out this game's biggest shortcoming: there is a heavy disconnect between the CG and the text occasionally. Stuff like the description talking about the protagonist's pants while he's clearly naked in the CG, for example. It's not a huge deal, but it happens often enough to bother me. Clearly, no one bothered to revise the text once the CG work was done. Appetite gotta Appetite I guess.

Demon Route

In what is the most interesting route to me, as a corruption fan and all, Sarge shows up transformed into "a pawn of the Demon King". Unlike previous routes, she's not broken just yet. She pleads for the Hero to run before it's too late and "she stops being herself", and she has some heavy blushing going on. The green demon next to her is Izo, the second in command of the Demon Army, whom the protagonist presumed dead after their fight, but he was just hiding. The Hero remembers the demon used to run experiments and turn humans into monsters, but his cheat skills and Sarge's holy powers were able to turn them back. Now that he doesn't have his skills and Sarge herself is corrupted, he can't do anything but watch.

Unable to move or act against Izo, Sarge still tells the Hero to run

Surprised that Sarge is still resisting, Izo extends his hands and starts sending more brainwashing waves into her head, while he recounts what exactly happened.

This flashback is a body modification scene, with tentacles and needles inserting themselves in Sarge's armpits, nipples, and even bellybutton, to fill her with demonic essence while a lust crest is carved on her lower abdomen. Not any demonic essence, but the Demon King himself's. After his death, his hatred kept lingering along with his power, and Izo thinks Sarge is a suitable vessel for it. Once he's done, she will become the Demon King's successor, inheriting his power and will. It's not possession, Sarge will still be herself, but a twisted version of herself who shares the Demon King's values. Sarge keeps screaming for the Hero to save her and says she will never succumb to evil no matter how much her body is toyed with.

After the flashback is done, Sarge wakes up from the brainwashing session, and she has completely succumbed to evil. She laughs maniacally about how much power is flowing through her, and how she will subjugate the world with it. She also throws the Hero around and starts stomping and spitting on his dick, humiliating him for her own pleasure. Until she notices he is actually getting hard from that and decides to keep milking him in the most emasculating way possible, crushing his testicles when she's done.

After that, Izo finishes her body modification, giving her a more suitable form for the new Demon Queen, which is a second part of her body modification where we see even her nostrils and ears being defiled by tendrils before her body's color, already an eerie pink, changes to a bluish, deep purple. Sarge now has no humanity left on her and becomes a demon in both body and soul.

Narration from the Hero informs us a few days passed and Sarge is rampaging around the human world, killing indiscriminately and swiftly defeating any human resistance. She's also been feeding on human energy through sexual intercourse. She can freely control men with her powers and milks the dry of their semen (literally until they die of exhaustion) as her nourishment. The Hero, hiding, observes her eating at a train station before she forces him to come to her, mockingly revealing she noticed him the whole time. The Hero keeps meekly asking Sarge to go back to how she was and crying, which prompts the demoness to proclaim he is too boring and kill him with one strike.

The last thing the Hero sees

This is my favorite route just for the corruption aspect, and Shinomiya's delivery of demon Sarge's lines is top-notch, especially her deranged fits of laughter after she is fully reborn. I also like that this is the route that goes into a bit more detail about the nature of the magic world the protagonist was in with the demons being able to cross between them, what kind of challenges they faced during the war and whatnot. It's a nice morsel of worldbuilding in a game that otherwise stands on a very barebones premise.

And luckily for me, this isn't all for Demon Sarge just yet, because there's still the fourth Route

True Route

I already mentioned how this route starts, she shows up even further demonized than in the previous route, humiliates the Hero, and then demonstrates all the new things she's learned like a bizarre blowjob where she makes use of not only her mouth, but also her nostrils (expanded with the help of a nose hook). I feel this scene feels out of place in this route, but ok.

The meat of it comes after. Sarge keeps humiliating the hero, even vomiting up semen in his face, and that's when he finally, for the first time in the entire game, decides to stand up for himself. Realizing that what happened to Sarge is his fault, that he loves her, and that he will take her back no matter what. This is when he feels power surging inside him, and he feels his purifying power return, which he unleashes at Sarge.

She returns to her original princess form, and the two embrace, and renew their vows of love, of becoming one, and a sweet sex scene follows, where the Hero is worried about being bad at sex but Sarge keeps reassuring him. Of course, this is a ruse. Once he cums, he realizes he can no longer feel his body, and that it's not just from exhaustion. Sarge's sclera turns black again and she starts laughing while saying that they will become one, as the Hero will be her nourishment.

He then realizes he isn't in his room anymore, but in a mental space and that his body and mind are being absorbed into Sarge's. She says that she'll leave his consciousness intact so she can feed on his hopelessness forever, and even acknowledges that they really are incredible compatible, at least as far as energy goes. Sarge finishes absorbing him and proclaims that she is now invincible and nothing will stop her of bringing ruin to the world.

Sometime later (the Hero is unable to tell the passage of time anymore, being a barely conscious part of Sarge now), Sarge wanders around in a destroyed city. There are very few humans left alive, and the ones Sarge chose to spare have completely lost their sanity and live like animals ruled by their base sexual instincts, to Sarge's amusement. A single guy has survived without losing his mind and Sarge rewards him by fucking and absorbing him into her as well (unlike the Hero, other people she absorbs just become energy and die). She taunts the Hero saying that his world is in shambles and that he's been able to save one world and watch the other be destroyed.

But the Hero doesn't see it like that. He can't communicate with Sarge but, having never liked the world, being treated as an outcast, isolating himself and all that, now, joined with Sarge, he sees her ruthless destruction of it as deserved. That he's powerless to take revenge on the world but Sarge can do it for him. He is also unable to let go of his memories of Sarge as a princess and her vows of love, and no matter what form she takes or how twisted her personality becomes, he still loves her. So he will keep watching over the one he loves as one, as she brings the end of the world.

Together at last

I really liked this ending because it pays off the protagonist just being an asshole. After being a wet noodle all the way through, the resolve he finds is... Loving Sarge even as a demon, and being part numb and part even grateful to the horrors she's wringing to Earth. It's not what I expected, and in a way he can be argued to still be in denial, but it's the happiest ending here, and the only one that isn't some form of NTR. It is the kind of fucked up evil scenario I find fitting for the true end of a corruption story.

Conclusion

Isekai Choroine is a flawed game. Its routes are short, it could be argued there's not enough difference between the Gyaru and Foreign routes to justify them being separate (as well as Demon and True), and there are consistency errors between what's in the text and what is on the CG.

That said, the quality of Shinomiya Hina's delivery giving every version of the character a distinct personality, the good exploration of the feelings of the protagonist for Sarge across the routes (with each drawing a different conclusion, from despair/loss to a sense of detachment, to fear, to finding love again) and the good art (aside from a few continuity hiccups) and coloring help elevate it from its technical shortcomings and from the heavy-handed writing (even for sokuochi hentai standards) in the beginning of the gyaru and foreign routes, making an average finished product but that I'd still recommend checking out for fans of corruption, especially corruption into demon, since that is the best part, though gyaru fans are certainly well served as well. For those who are into it, the game is more than the sum of its parts.

Pros:

  • Great voice acting that pretty much carries the game and sells every different face of Sarge.
  • Good art style and coloring
  • Good exploration of its themes across multiple routes.
Mixed:
  • Gyaru and Demon content may appeal to different audiences, and if you come for only one of those things you're bound to leave disappointed
  • Maybe the game could have benefitted of having fewer but longer routes.
  • Every route follows the same structure except for the True Route.
  • Netorare. Enough said.
Cons:
  • Sarge's excessive innocence in the Gyaru and Foreign routes can sometimes break the suspension of disbelief.
  • Lack of attention to detail can be really distracting, especially with the assets (like the corrupted princess-sarge having the same pose as the gyaru/prostitute instead of the demon, or the tattoo appearing mid-scene that I described in the text)

Score: 6/10

  1. Nice review. I played the game after reading this post, although I would give it at most 2/5 points. My problems:
The game is too short. It felt like I was reading the cliff notes of a game. I think I sped through it in 30 min.
As you wrote, the routes are too similar, especially the gyaro and prostitute routes. Compare their appearance in the end: black, tattooed, make-up, vulgar and loose. I can't tell them apart. Also, they're so black it borders on comedy; I didn't realise a tanning bed could change ones race...
The demon route is difference, but it's just a bog standard tentacle/needle corruption scene, seen a hundred times before and done better.

    1. Yeah, the major difference between the prostitute and gyaru routes at the end is the voice and what she speaks. Appearance is really similar. The game would definitely be better if they just fused these two routes as well as the demon and "true route" instead of going for four.
